GoTopless Day falls on the Sunday closest to Women’s Equality Day, August 26. It is on Aug 26, 1920 that women earned their right to vote on the basis of Gender Equality. In 1971, the US Congress has made August 26 into a nationally recognized date and named it “Women’s Equality Day”. The president of the United States is summoned to commemorate this date each year.
Go-Topless Day’ In New York Seeks Equal Rights To Bare Chests.
“We hope that by participating in annual topless festivities, New York City women and women around the world will feel increasingly comfortable to go topless in public. When a woman’s uncovered chest in public becomes the simple non-event it already is for a man, we will have accomplished our mission.” —Rachel Jessee, GoTopless spokesperson of GoTopless in NYC.
