The Venera 11 (meaning Venus 11) was a USSR unmanned space mission part of the Venera program to explore the planet Venus.
Venera 11 was launched on September 9, 1978 at 3:25:39 UTC. After launch and a four month cruise to Venus the descent vehicle separated from the bus and plunged into the Venusian atmosphere on March 5, 1982. After entering the atmosphere a parachute was deployed. At an altitude of about 50 km the parachute was released and simple air braking was used the rest of the way to the surface.
